'I think this is one of the most important ideas for public
health to reach our shelves for many years. Read it,
digest it and enjoy its consequences.
This book brings together some of the most important and urgent ideas for Human
and Environmental Health of our time; it is not just
about being fat and how to avoid it. It is about why
this happens, why it is not just about calories, why
it sometimes cannot be shifted, why we HAVE to wake
up to the devastating impact of chemical toxicity in
our environment and our agricultural practices. It is
a book with solutions. I hope millions read it, digest
its contents and go on to enjoy much improved health
and well being as a result.'

and Integrated Medicine at Oxford Brookes University

'This is a ground-breaking approach to dieting and
detox whilst reconciling the individual aesthetics of
today's lifestyles with a greater awareness of environmental
issues and health.'
Dr Gera M. Troisi. Senior Lecturer in Environmental
Toxicology, School of Life Sciences, University of Kingston.

'It adds something in a more nuanced way to look at
food and the environment. Thinking about food behaviour
is very important. The problem with food, is at the
moment these chemicals are there.'
Dr Peter van den Hazel, Chairman of the International
Society of Doctors for the Environment.

'Being a health practitioner for over 9 years I have
been keenly aware of the detrimental effects of
the chemicals found in our food, water and environment
to our health and well being. I have been especially
interested in their effects on women's reproductive
systems, and do believe they are one of several
reasons why we are currently experiencing an increase
in fibroids, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome
and infertility.
It was a great pleasure to read a book advocating the
advice I have given to my patients over the years, and
was impressed with the comprehensive but easy to access
research on core issues surrounding chemicals and health.
After many years of being viewed as extreme and radical
for my beliefs I delight in this book as it does much
to raise public awareness, and is to be commended for
the strong presence of research from no doubt dedicated
and passionate researchers.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who seeks to
understand and moderate the effect of chemicals in their
lives and whilst doing so support and nurture the environment.
Thanks for an intelligent, thoughtful and passionate
book.'

Medicine and Gynaecology.

'I am fifty-nine years old and for the last twelve
years I have had very poor health. Originally I was
diagnosed with M.E. but last year I contacted Dr. Myhill
who, on investigating my medical history, and the events
leading up to my physical collapse diagnosed organophosphate
poisoning.
When I read the article publicising your book I thought
that although it was written for people without serious
organophosphate problems that it might help me.
I obtained your book and have followed the advice closely,
but without food restrictions. I am sure you will be
pleased to hear that I am feeling normal, which is a
condition I had thought I would never feel again.
I now:
Sleep for eight hours per night;
Can stay up all day;
Have been able to walk around the shopping area without
excruciating pain a few hours later;
Have begun to do my own housework;
I recently drove one hundred and twenty miles without
having to spend the next forty-eight hours in bed recovering;
Best of all I can make arrangements to go out knowing
that I will be well enough to attend the event;
I used to sleep with a TeN's machine strapped to my
legs to dull the pain, and have only used it twice since
I began your regime;
I am also losing weight and inches, but I am trying
not to lose too much too quickly, as at my age my skin
is not elastic and I am trying to avoid saggy skin.
I can't thank you enough for the effort you put in to
gather the enormous amount of information necessary
to make a coherent manual for a healthy life.
I have also spoken to Action for M. E. and recommended
that they get a copy and they have asked me to review
your book. I have never done anything like this before.
But I will try to do you justice.
Please feel free to use this letter, if you so require.

Update from Dr. Paula Baillie-Hamilton:
Soon after I received this letter, I called this reader
to talk over her health issues, and she told me that
she had actually lost 2 stones in 3 months with no food
restriction. She had not mentioned it in her original
letter since her tremendously improved health was the
most important thing.

I just want to say how brilliant your book is, and
how I take my hat off to you for researching the badly
neglected area of the effect of chemicals upon peoples'
health!

Firstly my sincere congratulations on your book which
I think is a magnificent achievement!...My initial reaction
is that your concept of Chemical Calories is brilliant:
I have not previously encountered the view that toxic
chemicals disrupt our bodies' natural slimming ability;
this ranks alongside the known effects of oestrogens
in the environment (and a whole range of oestrogen mimicking
chemicals) on sperm counts in male animals - which has
potentially very serious consequences.

I am writing to thank you for a wonderful book. I have
been a Complementary Therapist as well as a Weight Control
and Fitness Consultant for the last 20 years, and one
of the main theories I have tried to teach my classes
was the need to eat the most natural of foods, to prepare
from 'scratch' and always buy Organic or grow their
own.
I also noted that with a lot of my patients, medication
intake, processed foods and toxic environments always
had to be taken into consideration for 'dieting' and
treatments.
Amazingly, doctors were not always as ready to listen,
especially when it came to steroid intake for asthma
and its effect on weight gain.
It has been great reading a book which proves so many
of the 'intuitive' answers or theories I have held for
so long. I cannot thank you enough.

What a surprise to take such a comprehensive volume
into my hand. And what a surprise to read a text which
declares so much in such comprehensible terms. It is
a very interesting and also an extremely releveant subject
you introduce. Said by a person who is only a layman:
It is a wonderful book.
